Reunion 2009

Posted on 2nd March, 2009
I looked forward to this years reunion for a long time and I am happy to say it turned out OK.

There were a total of 22 of old 51 members + 7 wives.

I am sorry that I did not get a chance to have a long chat with all the Ladies and I hope they did not feel too neglected because there was 40 years of catching up to do so the conversation must have been a bit one sided and even bewildering  at times.

There were a few who said they would be at the reunion but due to ill health and other commitments they were unable to attend. I wish those who are not well speedy recoveries and hope that they are able to attend the next get together.

As with the last get together it was a bit difficult to recognise people at first and not everyone had served with the Squadron at the same time so there were a few puzzled looks when some were introduced. However by the end of Saturday it was like being back with the Squadron once more and the years had peeled away. The same Squaddie humour and wisecracks and the same no no nonsense approach to life.

I would have liked to spend more time talking to every individual but I seemed to get a bit bogged down with trying to get the slide shows working. I did manage to talk to everyone but it was a bit difficult as we all had a lot of catching up to do and conversations seemed to veer off in all directions.

Some of the things discussed to improve future reunions were, A proper yearly journal to be sent out or handed out at the next reunion, a possible association with a yearly subscription and a name badge with old photo so that people would be easier to recognise.

I will endeavour to do what I can about all of the above and will write individually to people to see if we can improve future get togethers. But I must stress that We do not want to over organise things.

That's all for now. I will try to write a more informative blog later but I still have more photos to put on the site and I have been asked to try to put descriptions with the photos already on site so I have got my work cut out for the next few weeks.
